About the Event
The 1st NLIU National Parliamentary and Constitutional Colloquium, organised by the Centre for Parliamentary Studies, in collaboration with Manthan Centre for Knowledge & Policy Discussion, is envisioned as a first-of-its-kind academic platform dedicated to exploring the functioning of constitutional democracy through multiple institutional lenses. The colloquium seeks to bring together students from across the country to engage with the processes that shape governance, legislation, policy formulation and adjudication.
The colloquium combines competitive engagement with intellectual deliberation. Through carefully designed competitions simulating key constitutional functions, participants will be encouraged to analyse contemporary public issues, craft policy responses, draft legislation, engage in parliamentary debate and develop judicial reasoning. The event aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of constitutional values while simultaneously fostering practical skills relevant to law, governance and public policy.
The colloquium will feature five distinct competitions, each reflecting a different institutional dimension of India’s constitutional framework. These include the National Youth Parliament, which will simulate parliamentary deliberation through the All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) and the Lok Sabha; the Constitutional Law Quiz, designed to test participants’ knowledge of constitutional doctrine and jurisprudence; the Policy Drafting and Presentation Competition, focusing on innovative and implementable policy solutions; the Legislative Drafting and Presentation Competition, which challenges participants to craft precise legislative proposals; and the Judgement Writing Competition, which evaluates analytical reasoning and judicial writing.
By bringing together simulations of legislative, executive and judicial processes within a single academic forum, the colloquium seeks to create a comprehensive learning experience that reflects the interconnected nature of constitutional governance. The event is designed not merely as a competition but as a platform for meaningful engagement with public law, democratic institutions and policy discourse.
